2008/2009 Summary:  As mentioned in 'about me' , 2008 was my first year competing solo.  All things considered I have been very pleased with being in the prize list on a number of occasions.  The CLASP events have been a great learning experience.  The results so far have been a great confidence boost and combined with the tuition I am now able to obtain on line will hopefully give further improvement.  The Judges constructive comments on critique sheets have been fantastic in highlighting areas requiring improvement.  As these judges are usually top of their piping game, I hope this bodes well for me in future years.

Overall for the season 2008/2009 I came 6th out of 16 in what is generally termed 'Light Music' which for those who don't know piping would probably recognise some tunes as Green Hills of Tyrol, Scotland the Brave  & Amazing Grace to name but a few.  I hasten to add these tunes are not played in competitions, as more is generally expected of competitors!!  The 'heavy' music known as Piobaireachd (peebruck), I came 6th out of 20.  Piobaireachd music begins with a theme called the 'Urlar' or 'Ground''.  This is then followed by variations that generally increase in tempo and compIexity.   I have up to now been playing the ground only.  It is my hope at the start of the 2009/2010 season on the 12th August 09 to play the FULL Piobaireachd, although the ground will still be judged separately in its own right.  My chosen tune is Monros' Salute.  Please see 'videos' for actual competition performances.
