It was an honour today to Bagpipe for the Funeral of a local Barry gentleman, who served most of his adult life in the Merchant Navy. With no local family, the gentleman was given a nautically themed service with participation from SSAFA, RNLI, Military Veterans, Royal Navy and friends.
I led the cortege to the chapel with the tunes "My Home" and the appropriately named "Sailing" by Rod Stewart. This was the theme tune of the 1980's Documentary about life aboard HMS Ark Royal.
The last post was conducted after the committal which concluded an excellent service. I then concluded my participation with "Going Home" & a "Salute" from the classical Bagpiping genre "Piobaireachd".
Our condolences to the family members resident in Australia & the many mourners in attendance.
